I had booted into Recovery mode ( Command and R) on restart, it goes into the recovery screen, select disk utility, and then perform a scan on your default Disk( in most cases Macintosh HD) and perform a scan. After that I rebooted, and logged in n normally- reran the storage check you are having trouble with, and it finished in about 2 minutes. Hope that helps😉

this has solved the issue for me, thanks - been driving me insane and apple had not offered a solution even though i've been dealing with them about this issue for several months now - many online chats and discussions with senior advisors and nothing - as I say, this has solved the problem for me. Curious why it does fix it, why apple don't know how to fix it and why it started doing it in the first place when it was fine to begin with I seem to remember (only had the Macbook since early Jan and it's been barely used).

So, thanks a million for this advice as it has fixed this issue for me. Cheers 🙂

I guess all you guys having this problem is your OS is Sierra and it is being 'tweaked' by installed CleanMyMac 3.

Click the 'Manage' button aka 'System Information', the disk usage reports correctly if the Spotlight is on and did a whole index of your hard drive.

Now, once you uninstall the CleanMyMac 3 by 'Uninstall' function it proves, then restart your Mac. What happens in 'About This Mac -> Storage'?

For me, no more 'Still Calculating', it just shows the right numbers as i wish.

My Problem was CleanMyMac

as someone else pointed out on here, so I uninstalled cleanmymac and the storage calculating was fixed!

But I really wanted cleanmymac on my computer, so I reinstalled it, and it messed up the calculating again,

So in the cleanmymac app I ran the maintenance tab, selected all, and ran!

After that it seemed to fix the problem as my storage is calculating properly and I have cleanmymac running!

Hope this helps!

This problem caused me to fully reset my rMBP and MBA both. Then i noticed that CleanMyMac is the bad guy. I wrote email to CMM team, and what they relied is "too wait as long as it takes". What the heck?! It's definitely a bug! Anyway, still thanks to CMM that provides us such nice handy tool to tweak our MacBooks.
